Our Approach to Sustainability

At Townhouse Yarns, we believe that beautiful yarn should also be responsibly made. Sustainability and ethical production guide every stage of our work — from how we source our fibres to how we dye them in our studio.

We work with carefully selected suppliers who prioritise animal welfare, traceability, and environmentally responsible processing. All of our bases are non-mulesed, and each stage of the supply chain is chosen with care and respect for both people and planet.

A key part of our sustainability journey is the Farm to Yarn collection, created in partnership with Ériu Yarns. Using fleece from Irish farms and natural, non-superwash processing, this range is dyed in our studio and currently spun in the UK — though plans are firmly in place to bring that part of the process closer to home. The goal? To support local fibre networks and keep our carbon footprint to a minimum.

In the dye studio, we take steps to reduce waste and conserve water. Dyes are fully exhausted, water is reused wherever possible, and we use food-grade citric acid as a gentle setting agent. We're also actively engaged in the Green for Business programme in Ireland, working to refine our practices and improve our environmental impact even further.

Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we’re committed to making thoughtful, responsible choices every step of the way.
